How Los Altos Voted on the Propositions and Measures in Tuesday's Elections
Voters in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills turned out in large numbers to vote, and disliked Molly Munger's Proposition 38 much more than they disliked Jerry Brown's Prop. 30, which they passed.

A look at how voters in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills behaved in Tuesday's presidential election, show that they turned out in higher percentages than the rest of Santa Clara County, and they most decidedly did not like Prop. 38.

The percentages indicate the number of registered voters who cast their ballots for each unique race or measure. As an example, of the 27711 registered voters in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, 39 percent cast their ballot for Barack Obama, 22 percent for Mitt Romney.
The chart provides a snapshot—and perhaps a little insight—into the two municipalities.
Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, which have demonstrated over the years how much they like supporting education, voted 47 percent 'No' on the Molly Munger's Prop. 38, which proposed raising taxes on all Californians to directly go to school districts, compared to 17 percent who voted "Yes." A slim majority of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills voters passed Gov. Brown's tax increase (32 percent "Yes" to 29 percent "No.") that calls for a sales tax hike and
And Los Altos, home of the very popular Whole Foods Market, whose corporate CEO and co-founder Walter Robb publicly announced support of Prop. 37, the measure to label genetically-altered food, didn't go for it. Of the registered voters in Los Altos Tuesday, 34 percent voted "No,"and 26 percent voted "Yes."
In the criminal justice category, local voters supported heavier punishment for those convicted of human trafficking, altering the "Three Strikes" law and repealing the death penalty, the latter at odds with the majority of voters in the state.
Saratoga and Los Altos were the only cities in the Valley to vote against Measure A, the county sales tax. And Measure M, which calls for limiting executive pay at El Camino Hospital, perhaps not surprisingly, was rejected by voters in Los Altos Hills and Los Altos, where the "No on M" campaign was headquartered on Main Street. The measure, however, appears to have passed, though all ballots have not yet been counted.
