The Terraces at Los Altos Celebrates Campus-Wide Transformation

Community Leaders to Recognize $100 Million Expansion and Redevelopment During Ribbon Cutting and Ceremony

LOS ALTOS, Calif. – The Terraces at Los Altos retirement community will celebrate its completion of a $100 million multi-phase project designed to provide current residents with more options and amenities while positioning the community to meet the changing desires of a new generation of older adults.

On Tuesday, June 20, at 2:00 p.m., Los Altos Mayor Mary Prochnow will join The Terraces leadership and other dignitaries in celebrating the grand opening of the newly transformed continuing care retirement community.

Most recently the community added 81 new residential living apartments, as well as new common areas featuring a fitness center and spa, restaurant-style dining venues, library, movie theater and more.

“Seniors in the area have been wanting something different, something more fulfilling, a community with flexibility and lifestyle options they can’t find anywhere else,” said Sam Oden, executive director of The Terraces at Los Altos. “And given the changing times, we’ve made it a top priority to provide seniors with healthy living options and a sense of security – they want to know that everything they’ve worked to attain is protected.”

The retirement community has been in business for 60 years, and in those years, the community and its more than 200 residents have seen many changes in the surrounding Los Altos area. One of these changes is the growing population of seniors living within Santa Clara County. Census reports show 20% of the current Los Altos population is age 65 or older, and that number is projected to double by 2030.

The first phase of construction at The Terraces, completed in 2014, included The Village with 30 new skilled nursing suites, as well as the addition of The Grove with 16 dedicated memory support suites. The second phase of construction included the addition of The Lodge, which offers 30 assisted living residences with personalized care tailored to meet individual needs.

“The latest additions at our community, combined with the earlier phases, provides a full spectrum of amenities and options for active older adults seeking a vibrant lifestyle,” said Oden. “The Terraces at Los Altos brings together all the elements to maximize independence, provide life-enriching services and wellness for seniors in the Silicon Valley.”

The community is owned and managed by ABHOW, a nonprofit corporation that has been providing senior housing and health care for more than 60 years.
