Toyota Recall Includes Camry, Avalon, Venza

Toyota announced a major recall on Thursday covering 803,000 cars including Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, and Venza.

The cars were recalled because of a problem in the air conditioning condenser unit housing. The 2012-2013 model years are included in the recall.

Here’s the problem—water from the air conditioning condenser could leak onto the airbag control module and cause a short circuit, resulting in illumination of the airbag warning light.  

In some instances, the air bags could become disabled or could inadvertently deploy. 

And that’s not all. In some instances, the power steering could be damaged.

The fix: Toyota dealers will apply sealant and install a cover to the air conditioning condenser unit housing seam located above the airbag control module.

Owners will be notified by first class mail to return their vehicles to a Toyota dealer for the repair.

The recall has not yet been announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
