Winter in Alberta

Canada is a great place to visit at any time of year.

Winter in Alberta, Canada

My husband Roy and I love going to Alberta and have taken the train half a dozen times from Vancouver, British Columbia to stay in Banff, Jasper, and Lake Louise. This is a wonderful journey, through the Canadian Rockies, seeing wildlife, rivers, and having a great journey with first class service.

I am well equipped with winter clothes, so love to take a holiday in the winter months. You will find prices more reasonable than at other times of the year. Skiing is superb in this Province, and there is lots to do.

Alberta’s slopes remain inviting until April, when skiers shed their coats in favor of T-shirts. Slice down Banff National park’s big three ski resorts, a single pass accesses night skiing at Norquay, the world class terrain of Lake Louise ski resort and endless trails at Sunshine Village Ski and SnowBoard Resort. Some of the best skiing holidays I have ever had was to have a week’s heli skiing adventure staying at remote lodges only accessible by helicopter. Even if you aren’t a skier, this would be a wonderful way to have a stay at a remote lodge amongst breathtaking scenery of the Canadian Rockies. In the spring, the mountain flowers are fantastic and bird life is great in the variety. Excellent food, and it is a wonderful experience.

While in Alberta, you can sled with blue eyed huskies charging through powder as the saw toothed Canadian Rockies rush past. The alpine wilderness around Canmore is so enjoyable.

For little ones, snow tubing is a playful alternative to the bunny slopes. A two lane run rushes down Sunny Tube Park at the Lake Louise Ski Resort.

Sleigh in a classic horse drawn vehicle along the shores of Lake Louise. A romantic relaxing outing. With children, opt for a roomier western style sleigh and traverse the meadows beneath Banff’s Cascade Mountain ending with a steaming cup of cocoa.

Soak and relax in Banff Upper Hot Springs hundred degree waters seated at a crisp 5,200 foot elevation with a lovely view. We also suggest Jasper National Park’s Miette Hot Springs, the Rockies hottest mineral springs, best appreciated as snowflakes drift around you. These will relax every ache in your body.

There is no place like Alberta for constellation watching. The milky way seems to glow brighter here. You can even see the Northern Lights in the 4,200 square mile Jasper National Park and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Canada.

You can meet dog sledding puppies in summer months and have more warm weather adventures in Alberta.

Canada has outstanding skiing resorts, great hotels, and friendly people. As a Canadian specialist, it was required that I visit every Province in the country and had to take exams to get my certificate. This took me several years of training, so I can help you on visits to other parts of a great country.
