SAN JOSE, CA — Two children died and a third was hospitalized after they fell into a pool at a San Jose day care, according to police.
Authorities responded around 9 a.m. Monday to the home day care in the 1000 block of Fleetwood Drive after several children fell in the pool, police said. Three children were taken to hospitals in critical condition, where two were pronounced dead and the third was determined to be in a condition that was not life-threatening, according to police.
The police department’s homicide unit and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office will be conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances of the incident, as is protocol for all child deaths, authorities said.

Happy Happy Home Daycare is the name of the Fleetwood Drive business, according to The Mercury News, which reported the facility's licensees were cited last month for failing to document checks on sleeping children every 15 minutes. The pool has a 5-foot-tall mesh fence and a gate that self-closes and self-latches, the newspaper reported.
