Los Gatos All Stars Advance to NorCal Championships

The Los Gatos Little League 9- and 10-year-old All Star team beat Hollister 7-6 in sectional championships Thursday night.

The Los Gatos Little League 9- and 10-year-old All Star team became section champions last Thursday by defeating Hollister 7 to 6 in the finals in Gonzalez.

Thursday’s win gives the team a perfect 11-0 record in tournament play and will place them in the Northern California championship tournament in Sacramento.

Los Gatos’ offense was led by Griffin Frazer-Newcomb who hit a solo homerun in the second inning, and Joey Cerrito added to the attack with a clutch 3-RBI double in the fourth.

The All Stars got to the section finals after coming back from a 10-0 deficit and beating Hollister 15-11 in a thrilling matchup earlier in the week, and earned a spot in the section tournament after going unbeaten in their district tournament.

Team administrator Allan Walsworth said the All Stars have worked hard to get themselves into the state championships despite getting any time to rest.

“The boys have worked incredibly hard to get where they are,” he said. “They’ve played non-stop baseball for the last month-and-a-half and literally only have one day off a week.”

The All Stars were to play a team from Half Moon Bay Saturday in their first game of the Northern California championship tournament at 10 a.m.

The Los Gatos Little League 8 and 9-year-old All Star team also won its District championship this summer, beating Cambrian Park 15-5 in the title game at Cambrian Park.

Members of the championship squad included Jackson Benjamin, Shane Doty, Teague Drotar, Carson Gardner, Kai Hori, Antonio Nanez, Mario Ricci, Aiden Schenkel, Michael Splaine, Tommy Splaine, Luke Vindasius and Zach Webb.
