Barking Up A Tree

I understand that some places refuse to refer to that which I call a Christmas tree by that designation, using instead the term "Holiday Tree," leading to some substantial outrage. So a symbol which has nothing whatsoever to do with Christ or His birth, but is simply an infusion from European Winter festivals, and is in reality only a holiday decoration having no more to with any religion than do elves, reindeer and snow, is being called a holiday tree. My faith is shattered; I expect jack-booted thugs to come to my house any minute and confiscate my nativity scene.

If some governmental authority or chain store were to display a creche, with Joseph, Mary, Baby Jesus, Wise Men and all, and insist that it be called a Middle Eastern Holiday Barnyard Scene, I might be mildly annoyed. But a tree? That is about as significant to my faith as snowmen and Rudolph.

Next, someone will refer to the sacred symbol of the resurrection as the "Spring Holiday Bunny," thus robbing rabbits, eggs, Peeps and waxy chocolate of their holiness, further trampling on my rights and my beliefs, and leaving me adrift and faithless, bereft of the meaningless symbols having nothing at all to with the actual Bedrock of my faith.
