BASEBALL: Los Gatos Earns First De Anza Win Over Mt. View

Behind a seven-run outburst in the fourth, the Los Gatos High baseball team earned its first league win of the year, defeating Mt. View High 12-2 Wednesday afternoon at Mt. View High.

Los Gatos (6-3-1, 1-2 De Anza) struck first off a Kevin Brogan one-out single.  Hayden Hibberd was hit by a pitch followed by a pickoff throw that got away to give the Wildcats first and second with only one away. 

Mt. View pitcher Grant Appelgren was able to get a flyout to right, but Brogan tagged and scored to open the game's scoring.  Vince Augustine then smashed a triple that brought in Hibberd and scored moments later off a wild pitch making it 3-0 Cats early. 

Mt. View (2-7-2, 0-3 De Anza), the 2010 Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division champs, answered in the second inning with a Connor Nunley double and a Cameron McNair single to make it 3-1.   

A big inning crippled the Spartans against defending De Anza champ Palo Alto High a week ago.

In the top half of the fourth, the visitors locked in and took control of the game at the plate, giving Mt. View an unfriendly bit of deja vu.

Los Gatos ripped off five hits, was hit by a pitch once and drew three walks in the monster frame. 

Seven runs touched home for the 'Cats, climaxed by a bases clearing double by senior outfielder Curt Breidenthal to make the score 10-1.

Los Gatos eventually won the tilt, 12-2. The two schools will meet up again Friday afternoon at Los Gatos High.
