Boy, 3, Dies In Los Gatos Hwy 17 Crash

LOS GATOS, CA — A 3-year-old boy died in a collision on state Highway 17 in Los Gatos on Saturday afternoon, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office. Steven Merchant III, a resident of Ripon in San Joaquin County, died in the collision reported at 12:50 p.m. Saturday on the highway just south of Lark Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Several other people had minor injuries.

A traffic alert was issued at 1:43 p.m. because one lane of the highway was shut down. The alert was canceled an hour later.
