Jewish Federation CEO Celebrates 25 Years Serving Silicon Valley
Jyl Jurman will be honored for lifetime of service Feb. 2. The event will feature entertainment by The Capital Steps and the Joe Sharino Band.
In a society where job searches are rampant and economies are ever-turning, it is rare to find a person who makes one employer his or her lifelong career choice.
While Jyl Jurman’s life has by no means reached its term, I think it is safe to say that the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley has been her employer for a lifetime.
In 1988, when neon colors and hi-top sneakers were first in style, Jyl entered the doors of the Jewish Federation. She began with the Federation working with younger individuals to develop the leaders of tomorrow.

Now, 25 years later, tomorrow has arrived and our community is fortunate to thrive under the leadership of Jyl and those individuals who began working with her more than two decades ago.
In the time Jyl has served our community, Jews and non-Jews alike have benefited. From thousands of meals served in the former Soviet Union and hundreds of individuals brought out of disparaging situations overseas to feeding the hungry and educating the young in our very own community, Jyl has raised dollar after dollar to ensure the programs that do good continue.

On Feb. 2 the community will gather to celebrate Jyl’s 25 years with the Jewish Federation and the accomplishments she has made in this time; most notable being the creation of the Levy Family Campus in Los Gatos.
The campus structure was erected seven years ago and encompasses a preschool, elementary and middle school, a community center, Jewish Family Services and the Federation offices. During the summer hundreds of campers make the site their stomping ground and each week more than 10,000 people walk through the doors of the campus.
Regardless of whether you’ve met Jyl, if you’ve lived in Los Gatos you most likely have been touched by her. From camp scholarships and adult education to an on-campus full gym, Jyl’s efforts have continued to guarantee a thriving community site.
