KCAT TV and Radio is hosting its 5th annual Oktoberfest right here in Los Gatos! Enjoy a day of festivities all supporting KCAT programs &amp; services.
NUMU will be tabling from 12-5 PM, so come chat with us and participate in a collaborative art activity for all ages. We will be making paper Lebkuchenherzen, based on the traditional decorated gingerbread heart cookies given as gifts and worn as pendants. Visitors can cut out the paper heart and decorate it with colored pencils and yarn, and even learn some popular German phrases to add to your Lebkuchenherzen. Then, wear it while visiting other booths, playing games, and enjoying the live performances. Prost!
Plus, museum admission will be free from 10 AM-5 PM, so be sure to stop by!

Hoo’s ready for September’s monthly craft? Visitors can use upcycled cardboard, paper, and more to make their own horned owl, a popular sight to see as Los Gatos enters fall. If you need more inspiration, you can check out our collection of taxidermy owls on display in the Los Gatos History Project and Collections Lab. It's a hoot!
The Monthly Craft is a drop-in, self-led artmaking activity that complements NUMU’s current exhibitions or seasonal themes. Activities are designed for a wide range of participants. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please leave the space as you found it for others to enjoy.

This class will be an introduction to different art mediums. There will be a new project in each class with a different medium. A wonderful opportunity to try and discover new ways of art expression. 

There will be an introduction to these different mediums:

Twenty-five years ago,
 America watched the unimaginable unfold — and in the days that 
followed, witnessed something equally unforgettable: ordinary people 
rising to extraordinary courage.&nbsp;9/11 at 25: Keepers of the Flame&nbsp;marks
 this milestone anniversary by honoring the heroes, victims and 
survivors of that day, and the generations who have carried their legacy
 forward ever since — our veterans, first responders, and service 
members who continue to answer the call to protect America and her 
freedom.&nbsp;&nbsp;Keepers of the Flame&nbsp;draws its 
inspiration from the Eternal Flame, a symbol used throughout history to 
keep memory burning bright through the darkest of nights, and the very 
flame that inspired the focal point at the heart of our Flame of Liberty
 Memorial. Just as that flame never dims, neither does the duty to 
remember, to honor, and to protect.
Join community members as we come together to reflect on 25 years since 9/11, and to celebrate the&nbsp;Keepers of the Flame,&nbsp;those who have carried, and continue to carry, the light of liberty forward.

Join local artist John Paul Amaral for gourd art making and its tradition in the Pueblos of the American Southwest. John Paul will teach attendants the elements of designing their own patterns on gourds. Then, he will teach them how to use wood-burning techniques and traditional plant-based water coloring to decorate them. The workshop will include a discussion on the long history of gourd art and pottery in Ancestral and contemporary Puebloan peoples. Visitors are invited to bring patterns from their own cultures and inspiration from their lives to design their gourds.
The instructor will be providing:
<ul><li>Hand-sized gourds</li><li>#2 pencils</li><li>Rulers</li><li>Wood burning tools</li><li>Watercolor paints</li><li>Paint brushes</li></ul>
Students are invited to bring (if you have materials already):
<ul><li>Digital or physical prints of patterns they will like to use as reference materials</li></ul>
