LYRIC THEATRE, in our 56th year of high quality live musical theater productions, offers a unique production for your enjoyment.
"Babes in Toyland" Victor Herbert's Classic Broadway Hit
Babes in Toyland weaves together various nursery rhyme characters into a musical fairy tale extravaganza. It features some of Herbert's most famous songs - "Toyland", "March of the Toys", "Go to Sleep, Slumber Deep", and "I Can't Do the Sum."
Babes in Toyland was made into movies in 1934 with Laurel & Hardy, 1961 with Ray Bolger and Annette Funicello and in 1986 with Drew Barrymore and Keanu Reeves, all with vastly different stories from the original production.
Lyric Theatre will return to the original production and present Babes in Toyland as a concert style show with video projections illustrating the themes of the songs. Music from the original 1903 production which has not been heard since, will be provided by our excellent singers and full symphony orchestra.
A narrator will provide illuminating descriptions of the songs. Supertitles for song lyrics will also be provided.
A pre-show talk before each performance will be given by Alyce Mott, Artistic Director of the Victor Herbert Renaissance Project Live in New York.
Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear this delightful music!
