Campbell, Morgan Hill Robberies May Be Linked

An armed robbery in Morgan Hill early Wednesday morning may be linked with similar cases in Campbell and San Jose, according to police.

Around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a report of a robbery at a 7-Eleven store at 295 W. Main Ave., police said. Arriving officers learned the suspect entered the store with a small black handgun and demanded that the victim open a cash register, police said. At first the victim refused to comply with the suspect’s order but he gave in after the suspect punched him in the face, according to police.

The victim was forced to open the register and the suspect took out cash before he fled, police said. The suspect was last seen heading west on Crest Avenue, according to police.

The male victim was taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy to be treated and was later released, police said.

Wednesday’s robbery is similar to one in Campbell about an hour earlier around 11:40 p.m., when two men demanded money from a clerk at Food Mart at 100 W. Hamilton Ave., just west of Winchester Boulevard, according to police.

The physical description and clothes of one of the suspects in the Campbell robbery was a close match of the Morgan Hill robbery suspect, police said.

There were also two robberies in San Jose that resembled the Morgan Hill and Campbell incidents, according to police.

The suspect is described as a black man standing about 6 feet tall and wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt, red hat with a bill and black pants, according to police.
