Colin Kaepernick To Call Final 'Million-Dollar' Play

VIDEO: The former Niner will announce the final $100,000 he's donating to fulfill his 2016 $1-million pledge to aid oppressed communities.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA Former San Francisco 49ers front man Colin Kaepernick is prepared to make a much-anticipated announcement Wednesday about the "final $100,000" needed to fulfill his "Million Dollar Pledge." Launched in 2016 not long after the then-Niners quarterback bucked NFL tradition by kneeling instead of standing for the national anthem, he made a pledge of a different sort.

Said Kaepernick: "I will donate one million dollars plus all the proceeds of my jersey sales from the 2016 season to organizations working in oppressed communities..."

The first off-the-field play called by the beleaguered yet seemingly empowered Kaepernick came in October 2016 when, through his Colin Kaepernick Foundation, he passed $25,000 each to four organizations: Silicon Valley De-Bug, of San Jose; Causa Justa/Just Cause, of the Oakland-San Francisco area; Urban Underground, of Milwaukee; and Mothers Against Police Brutality — MAPB— of Dallas.

According to Kaepernick7.com, the groups — along with dozens more since — used the windfall for social justice efforts such as anti-police brutality awareness campaigns and support for affected families, loved ones and communities. Kaepernick has said racial injustices and police brutality were among his reasons for kneeling rather than standing for "The Star-Spangled Banner" back at that preseason game a little more than a year ago.

Regarding his final million-dollar pledge play call Wednesday, Kaepernick had this to say in a Facebook post:

"I’m proud to say that ... I've donated $900,000 to 31 organizations fighting toward social justice. Its [sic] been a privilege to be able to do my part in helping organizations like Mothers Against Police Brutality to provide comfort and support for families when law enforcement kills a community member, Helping Oppressed Mothers Endure to provide furniture to single mothers and Meals on Wheels who feed those less fortunate — just to highlight a few. Hearing about how each organization utilized the donations reaffirms that people doing good work need more support.
As we welcome 2018, we also see that our work is not done. Tomorrow, I'll be announcing the final $100,000 to complete my Million Dollar Pledge. I'm excited to share this last round of donations with all of you. ... #MillionDollarPledge #10for10."
