I’m a story teller, not a journalist, as I’ve said before, I’m not a newspaper, so I am very cautious and sensitive when I’m writing about things I don’t know first hand. My intent in writing about the Posh Bagel situation was not to judge the previous owners one way or another but to simply call for clear headed and reasonable consideration when one is confronted with street gossip regarding the tenant or the landlord. I’ve lived in this town a very long time and it is impossible to recount the number of times I’ve heard frightening, damaging, useless rumors that are absolutely baseless and untrue. My intention was to raise our considerations to some level a bit higher than what we find on “Maury Povich” style presentations.
Someone has added a comment to my blog which is calm, intentional and well spoken. I find it to be credable and deserving of as much exposure as the other possible theoreis regarding the Posh Bagel turnover so I’m posting it in exactly the same places I posted the first and second theories. The issue here is gossip and this comment does not read like gossip. Hopefully, this will end the casual speculation regarding this tempest in a teacup.
Lately, on a personal level, I’ve had to confront a touchy gossip situation and a couple of old sayings from my childhood came back to me: believe none of what you hear and half of what you read and then, as well: if you hear it once, ignore it, if you hear it twice, do something about it. While the information offered here, in this comment, is not “signed, sealed and delivered” like in some legal forum, it is calm, clear and fairly detailed. I definitely feel it to be as least as credable as the other possibilities which I have written about and I feel it is only fair to post this report in the public forum just as I had the previous possiblities. If I can’t be anything else, I insist on being fair and reasonable.

I usually don’t leave comments but I feel that record needs to be set straight here.

We know Jenny and Richard (who own the bagel shop) really well and were aware that a over the last few years they were having problems with the landlord/property owner. Basically, a few years ago, when their lease was up and they had to renegotiate, the landlord told them at that time that they owed all of these retro “administrative fees” for the property. This was news to them.
The problem here is that nowhere in their lease agreement was this fee ever stated therefore, they balked when they were presented with this huge bill. They had proof that they paid all of the bills for the property including garbage, electricity, etc, which was mentioned in their contract. The landlord threatened, . . . .
