Extension For SB 9 Urgency Ordinance On Los Gatos Council Docket
The ordinance would extend local objectives applying to a controversial housing bill in Los Gatos for an additional 10 months.
LOS GATOS, CA — The Los Gatos Town Council is set to vote on extending an urgency ordinance to implement Senate Bill 9 for another 10 months with specific local objective standards during its meeting Tuesday.
The ordinance, adopted on Dec. 21 for 45 days, comes before the council again before it expires Feb. 4 with “possible minor modifications.” If the ordinance is not extended, SB 9 — the so-called “duplex law” which allows most homeowners in the state to divide their property into two lots — would go into effect “without local considerations,” according to the staff report.
On Dec. 21, the council inserted specific local objectives into how SB 9 would apply in Los Gatos. This included affordable housing restrictions, fire hazard mitigations, building heights and minimum unit sizes.
