Academic Summer Camp at Learning Plus Tutoring

Learning Plus Tutoring, tucked into a nondescript office building near Union and 85, has been the valley’s best kept secret for over 30 years. But don’t let the fact that they do not have a sign out front fool you: these people know their stuff. Owner Sue Walker says Learning Plus gets most of their customers through word-of-mouth and referrals, so the need for bright signage out front just isn’t there.

Throughout the school year, highly-trained tutors work with students of all ages in a 1-on-1 setting. Using special methods, they are able to get great results from students who have not had success at other learning centers, and the kids seem to genuinely enjoy tutoring there.

During the summer, tutors continue 1-on-1 sessions in the afternoons, but Learning Plus shifts gears in the mornings from 9am to 12 noon, becoming an amazing Academic Summer Camp. Those same highly-trained tutors run individualized programs in an intimate small group setting. Students are in an at most 1 to 6 tutor/child ratio, so they are able to get personalized help on what they need, not a blanket one-size-fits-all program like you will see at most academic camps. The camp is fun and fast-paced, with students earning points for their work and being rewarded often. The environment is positive and upbeat, and the staff is really on point. They do an outside game and snack each day, and the subjects covered are reading, writing, math, comprehension, and study skills. Curriculum is up to date on Common Core standards, while incorporating some of that Learning Plus magic that makes this place so special. The kids get filled in on any holes they might have from previous years, and get set up for success in the fall.

These camps are a good deal at $705 for 3 weeks and $1400 for 6 weeks. The 2015 camps run June 22nd to July 31st, from 9am to noon, for all students entering grades 1st to 8th in the fall.
