LOS GATOS, CA — A downtown Los Gatos restaurant was damaged in a fire Monday night. The fire at Manresa, 320 Village Lane, was reported just before 9 p.m. and when firefighters arrived, an exterior wall and adjoining fence were ablaze, said Santa Clara County Fire Department Capt. Bill Murphy.

The restaurant was closed at the time and crews confirmed no one was inside, Murphy said.

It took about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control.

In addition to the wall and fence, Murphy said the fire also caused minor damage inside the restaurant building.

Fire investigators and a building official with the city of Los Gatos were looking into the safety of the building and what may have caused the blaze to break out.

Murphy said Tuesday afternoon that the building owners were free to begin making repairs at this time.

Murphy noted that the damage from the fire is much less significant than a blaze at the restaurant in July 2014, when flames sparked outside near garbage cans and ended up causing an estimated $240,000 worth of damage to the building and its contents.

Los Gatos building official Robert Gray said the department will release the findings of a structural evaluation once fire officials determine the cause.

Manresa management has not yet provided an update on when the restaurant will reopen. Manresa is a three-star Michelin restaurant known for its chef, David Kinch, who bought the Los Gatos property in 2002.
