Fire Lookout Volunteers Sought For Copernicus Peak
CAL Fire Santa Clara Unit is hosting an orientation this weekend.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA — CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit and the Forest Fire Lookout Association are seeking volunteers willing to serve at the Copernicus Peak fire lookout in the mountains east of San Jose, above Lick Observatory. Classes are forming and include one day of classroom training in Morgan Hill and hands-on training at the lookout, said CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit Spokeswoman Pam Temmermand.
"No qualifications are necessary, only a desire to serve the residents and communities of the CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit," Temmermand said Monday in a news release.
The next orientation class for lookout volunteers begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 3 at CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit headquarters, 15670 Monterey St., in Morgan Hill. Attendees are asked to park in front near the flagpole, then make their way to the Expanded Building Compound to the right of the Emergency Command Center.
