Fire At Los Gatos Townhouse Injures 1, Displaces 2

Santa Clara County fire officials believe the fire, which left 50 percent of the home damaged, may have started in a gas barbecue.

LOS GATOS, CA — A Los Gatos resident was injured and displaced Wednesday by a fire that authorities believe may have started in a gas barbecue. At about 6:25 p.m., the Santa Clara County Fire Department received multiple reports of a structure fire in the 100 block of Milmar Way, SCCFD Spokeswoman Luisa Rapport said in a news release.

Reports indicated the exterior of a residence — located off Los Gatos-Almaden Road in the Carlton area — was ablaze, with flames possibly extending to the attic, Rapport said.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find an active fire at one unit of a four-unit townhouse complex, with a resident of the affected unit outside suffering from a moderate injury, the spokeswoman said.

As crews confirmed no one else was inside the townhouse, the injured person was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

Although the fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, 50 percent of the home was damaged, Rapport said.

The injured resident and a second person who lives at the home were displaced by the blaze.

"Although the fire appeared to have started in a gas barbecue located against the side of the structure, the cause is still under investigation," Rapport said.
