"Recent detections of West Nile Virus were found in birds and mosquitoes of the Burbank and Rose Garden communities in San Jose - residents are advised to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites and dump any stagnant water on their property," Vector Control District Surveillance Manager Noor Tietze said in a statement.
"Mosquito control in residential and suburban areas is largely a community-wide endeavor and everyone is asked to pitch in."
No one needs to relocate but residents who want to limit exposure to family members or pets may want to close windows and remain inside during the operation.
Residents who are sensitive to chemicals may want to get in touch with their doctor beforehand. The fogging is meant to reduce the chance that mosquitoes, which transmit the virus, bite residents.
The virus cannot be transmitted from person to person.
