Fundraisers and Concerts This Weekend

Three events support new Los Gatos library, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and Youth Science Institute; concerts feature Lucinda Williams and Foreverland.

When/Where: 7 p.m., Thursday, , 140 So. Santa Cruz Ave.

Why Go: Hear from Jay Elliot, former senior vice president of Apple, who will read from and sign copies of his book, iLeadership for a New Generation: The Man Who Transformed The Way We Connect, Consume and Communicate. It's his insiders look at Steve Jobs. The event is sponsored by Friends of the Los Gatos Public Library.

When/Where: 5-7 p.m., Friday, Joseph George Wines, 1559 Meridian Ave., San Jose.

Why Go: It sounds like a terrific idea—wine tasting to help out the Youth Science Institute. So they are calling it the  Science of Wine. The event will be a gourmet wine- and food-tasting party. Bert George, owner of  Joseph George Wines will do the pouring of  rare, small-production Napa Valley wines with special hors-d’oeuvres by Blue Sage Catering.

Pricing: $75 

When/Where: 7:30 p.m., Saturday, The Mountain Winery, 14831 Pierce Rd., Saratoga.

Why Go: Lucinda Williams appears with special guest David Lindley as part of The Mountain Winery's summer concert series. 

Pricing: $35-$69.50

When/ Where: 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunday, , 50 University Ave.

Why Go: Help the women of Team Faboosh to raise money for breast cancer research as they participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer to be held in San Francisco July 9 and 10. Funds raised at this event will help the team get closer to the fundraising goal they have to meet to participate in this event. 

Pricing: $27.50 for a Sunday brunch buffet, a glass of champagne and coffee.

LOS GATOS MUSIC IN THE PARK

When/Where: 5-7 p.m., Sunday, June 26, Los Gatos Civic Center Lawn, 110 E. Main St.

Why Go: This is the second free Music in the Park summer outdoor concert that's part of the popular series, a fixture of the Los Gatos summer scene. The act this Sunday is Foreverland, a 14-piece tribute to Michael Jackson. Music in the Park, which started more than two decades ago, is produced through a partnership between the Town and Los Gatos Music & Arts, best known for its successful Jazz on the Plazz concert series.
