Garlic Festival Kicks Off for the Weekend

Three-day festival began Friday morning and continues through Sunday with all-things garlic!

The 34th annual Gilroy Garlic Festival kicked off this morning, bringing together live entertainment, art, drinks and garlic-centric food.

The weekend-long festival will be open today, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. in Christmas Hill Park.

Along with art and food vendors, it will include a children's area, teen zone, a cook-off stage and 50 live concerts.

Friday's opening comes after a Gilroy police announcement on Tuesday that about 1,000 tickets had been stolen from the Garlic Festival Association's office at 7473 Monterey Road sometime between June 5 and July 2.

Police said that some of the stolen tickets had been sold online and would not be honored at entrance gates this weekend.

Since the first festival, organizers say they have served nearly 4 million visitors 78 tons of fresh garlic and given more than $9 million to local non-profits.

Tickets for the festival are $17 for adults and $8 for children and seniors. Kids 6 and under get in free.
