WASHING AT HOME

If you wash your vehicle at home, park on a grassy or landscaped area. The water will soak into the ground, instead of running into the stormdrain and polluting our creeks. And, it will help to water your yard!

Additional tips for washing at home:

· NOZZLE: Use an auto-shutoff nozzle to avoid wasting water and creating excess runoff

· DUMP WASH BUCKET IN AN INSIDE DRAIN: When finished washing, take the bucket of “wash water” (i.e. your water mixed with detergent) and dispose of it down the toilet, or other inside drain (i.e. sink or tub). Keep it out of the gutter and stormdrain, and therefore out of our creeks.

· SOAP: Use biodegradable soap, or no soap

CAR WASH FUND-RAISING EVENTS

All West Valley communities have ordinances which prohibit polluted runoff from flowing into gutters, and from there into stormdrains and our creeks. West Valley Clean Water Program can provide your fund-raising group with a FREE loan of a “Car Wash Kit”, which will help keep your group in compliance with local ordinances.

The Car Wash Kit includes items like a pump to carry the car wash runoff to a landscaped area, a mat to cover the stormdrain, and related items. To borrow the kit, contact: info@CleanCreeks.org or 408.354.5385 and ask for the Stormwater Inspector.
