Los Gatos Historic Homes Tour Celebrates Architect Gary Schloh

Five homes will be showcased this weekend with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit Museums of Los Gatos organization.

The Museums of Los Gatos hosts its 18th annual self-guided Historic Homes Tour this weekend, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 5-6, featuring five restored properties by well-known local architect Gary Schloh.

According to Lyn Dougherty, co-chairwoman of the Historic Homes Tour Committee, the event is a major fundraiser for the Los Gatos Museums Association, which includes the Art Museum of Los Gatos, the History Museum at Forbes Mill and the Los Gatos Museums Gallery. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased by clicking here or this weekend at the Art Museum of Los Gatos, 4 Tait Ave.

The homes are located in the historic Almond Grove neighborhood, as well as East and North Los Gatos. Their addresses are:

Dougherty said an important part of the tour is to recognize that the homes’ styles are consistent with the rest of the neighborhoods' historic homes.

“The purpose of the tour is to show off the homes that have been restored and updated, but have kept the historic feel,” Dougherty said. “(Schloh) is really good at it. He really keeps the feel of whatever is typical of Los Gatos.”

Schloh, who has spent 33 years in Los Gatos and has restored or built more than 350 homes in town, said he was extra careful in keeping the homes’ historic value a priority.

“I’m a believer in conserving the resources of old homes and using what our fathers built,” he said.
