Hot Weekend Ahead For South Bay: Forecasters

Breaking: A heat advisory will be in effect for some inland areas of the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas, according to the NWS.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA -- Heat-sensitive residents of the Santa Clara Valley and other inland regions of the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas are at moderate to high risk of heat-related illnesses and higher fire danger as temperatures rise this weekend, National Weather Service officials said.

The Santa Cruz Mountains, the Diablo Range and the Big Sur region are under a heat advisory from 8 a.m. Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday, with high temperatures expected to reach 105 degrees in some spots.

The hottest temperatures for inland valleys and ridges will be in the North Bay, East Bay, South Bay and in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties. The inland areas of the South Bay are forecast to reach the 90s while ridges will be near 100.

Forecasters say Sunday will be the warmest day, when high temperatures are expected to reach 101 degrees in Gilroy; 97 degrees in Los Gatos; 96 degrees in Campbell; 96 degrees in Saratoga; 93 degrees in San Jose; 94 degrees in Mountain View; 92 degrees in Cupertino; 95 degrees in Los Altos; and 90 degrees in Palo Alto.

Across the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas, temperatures in the hilly and mountainous regions could remain above 70 degrees overnight and into the early-morning hours.

Temperatures along the coast from the North Bay to Santa Cruz will be lower, however, weather officials said.

Cooler temperatures are in the forecast early next week for the region, according to the NWS.
