Los Gatos Continues to Help Family After Father is Struck By Car

Dozens of volunteers continue to reach out with fundraising activities and service to the family of Los Gatos Barber Shop owner

The accident severely damaged his lower left leg and he has undergone several surgeries to repair extensive bone and soft tissue injuries, said family friend Dave Burt.

Three of the four Hibbitts children all avoided injury but witnessed the incident. He's been hospitalized for weeks and now faces many months of additional surgery and rehabilitation before he is well enough to return to work, Burt said. Hibbitts could also lose the lower part of his left leg.

Hibbitts also owns and operates the Hibbitts Family Stables in San Jose and is the sole provider for himself, wife Stephanie, and their children, who range in age from 10 through 15 years old. However, he can no longer work and his recovery is expected to be long so the community is rallying around the family to provide support, both emotionally and financially, Burt said.

Friends of the Hibbitts family, through several efforts have raised enough money to sustain the Hibbitts for the time being and many efforts continue
to provide additional financial support. Funds raised will help them with housing expenses, medical expenses, food, clothing, car expenses and
everyday needs for their family of six, Burt said.

On Aug. 9, more than 80 volunteers donated their time by working at the Hibbitts Family Stables, repairing fences, installing replacement gates,
cleaning up scrap waste, weeding, removing rocks from the outdoor arena and several other tasks, Burt said.

"The effort put forth was a true testament to the wonderful community we live in," Burt said.

Boy Scout Troop 539 brought 11 scouts, seven adults and four siblings. Pine
Cone Lumber donated all the lumber needed. CB Concrete Construction loaned a large dump truck. Los Gatos Iron Works and West Coast Fab Works
fabricated four new galvanized metal gates to replace old wooden gates that were falling down. Los Gatos Meats & Smokehouse donated the hamburgers, hot dogs and their trailer BBQ. And Los Gatos Lions Club donated bottled water, buns and condiments for the volunteers.

Burt, who's a member of the Los Gatos Lions Club, coordinated the effort, dividing the volunteers into crews with a team lead in charge of each task.

Several other efforts to support the Hibbitts family are under way, including a car wash and “epic” garage sale.

The following are upcoming events to continue to help the Hibbitts family:

• The Los Gatos High School varsity football team is hosting a Hibbitts Family fundraiser carwash at the high school's parking lot along Pleasant Street noon-4:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29.
• Carrie Currie is hosting “An Epic Garage Sale” on Oct. 6, asking folks to drop off their items at her house and all proceeds will benefit the Hibbitts family.
