Los Gatos Development Controversy Resurfaces: Report

SummerHill's contention that an underground parking lot isn't necessary has riled up some in the community.

LOS GATOS, CA — A developer’s plans to scrap underground parking from a major Los Gatos project has sparked controversy, The San Jose Mercury News reports.

SummerHill homes wants to do away with 127 park spaces in a four-story structure that’s already been approved, which would save the developer $4 million, according to the report.

SummerHill is contending that the parking isn’t necessary according to the report.

The 253-unit project will include 50 affordable units for seniors along with retail is expected to be completed within three to four years according to the report. Phase 1 of the construction began last month.

A Facebook group opposed to the development calling itself “Town not City” believes the additional parking will be needed to ameliorate parking and traffic concerns and is arguing that SummerHill be required to honor its commitment.

“Put simply, they are trying to weasel out of their commitment. Don’t let them!” the group posted.
