The Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center (JCC) was founded in 1974 in San Jose, and moved to Los Gatos in 1984 with the purchase of the old Berry Elementary School. The JCC built a pool and tennis courts and opened a preschool that quickly
became popular with Jews and non-Jews alike. In 2005, a new building went up, housing a 20,000 square foot fitness center, basketball gymnasium, an auditorium, and classrooms, and providing space for several other Jewish organizations as well as
the JCC. The JCC’s facilities are open to all, regardless of religious faith or background.

Jewish Community Centers in America date back to the 1850s, when they began providing cultural and athletic facilities for Jewish immigrants to the United States. Over time, they also began to offer summer camps, preschools, informal education, and services for the aged. Today JCCs serve the entire community and welcome people of all faiths.
