Los Gatos Kitchen Fire Causes $202K in Damage

A two-alarm fire Monday afternoon at a home in the foothills along state Highway 17 south of Los Gatos caused $202,000 in damage, Santa Clara County fire officials said.

Around 3:30 p.m., fire crews responded to a report of a kitchen fire in the 17700 block of Cherokee Trail, fire spokeswoman Stephanie Stuehler said.

Black smoke rising from the home was visible from Highway 17, fire officials said. Firefighters arrived and knocked down the blaze at about 4:45 p.m., Stuehler said.

A home next door had been threatened by the blaze but did not sustain damage, she said. No injuries were reported.

The fire caused $200,000 in damage to the home and $2,000 in damage to its contents, according to fire officials.

The fire was unintentionally started in the kitchen involving radiated heat and flammable liquid, fire officials said.

Cal Fire assisted in knocking down the blaze, according to fire officials.
