Los Gatos Legends Play for World Title

Lafayette All Stars eliminated by local boys in Wednesday's match.

The Los Gatos Legends in the Colt League World Series Division of Pony baseball will play tonight in the final championship game against Puerto Rico after beating host team All Stars of Lafayette, IN, 12-2.

Brett Solano, of Westmont High School, continued to throw well for Los Gatos fanning 7 in 5 innings of work and Sean Downey (2 of 4), of Archbishop Mitty High School, was 3-4 with two doubles, according to Legends coach Kris Hesenflow.

Lucas Erceg, of Westmont High School, added another double to his Colt World Series record now at 8 and the "big blast" came from Connor Martin (3 of 4), of Willow Glen High School, who sent a grand slam sailing over the left field wall of a packed Burt E. Loeb Stadium in Lafayette, IN, Hesenflow said.

Connor added another double and finished the night with 6 runs batted in. Tyler Deason (4 of 4), of St. Francis High School, will start tonight's game against Puerto Rico. He finished with six runs batted in (1 of 2), noted Hesenflow.

"The boys came out swinging last night," a proud and happy Hesenflow said. "It was important that we jump ahead early and take a crowd of 2,000 out of the game."

Solano continued to dominate on the mound (2 of 2). His pitching record in the tournament is now 5-0. "The boys are playing really well and have one more to go against the Puerto Rican team looking to avenge a Saturday loss to Los Gatos," he said.

Monte Sereno native Kevin Crane, Bellarmine College Preparatory, was the winning pitcher on Tuesday against the Illinois team.

The team, which is made up of 15- and 16-year-olds, defeated Puerto Rico by a score of 5-2 on Saturday, Germany 17-11 on Sunday and continued the hot streak Tuesday by defeating a team from Steger, IL by a score of 11-1. Then Wednesday evening, they once again showed their baseball prowess by beating the Lafayette host team.

Other teams in the tournament come from Greensboro, NC; Laredo, TX, Germany, Steger, IL; and Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico.

The World Series final game will be played tonight at 6 p.m. EST.
