Man Hit, Killed By Amtrak Train Near Monterey Road

The Coast Starlight train was traveling from Seattle to Los Angeles. [Breaking]

SAN JOSE, CA – A man died when he was hit in San Jose this morning by an Amtrak train traveling from Seattle to Los Angeles, Amtrak and Union Pacific Railroad officials said.

Amtrak's Coast Starlight No. 11 train hit the man at about 10:30 a.m. on the tracks near the intersection of Monterey Road and Skyway Drive, about five miles south of the San Jose/Diridon station, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham and Union Pacific spokesman Justin Jacobs said.

The collision did not occur at a railroad crossing. None of the 239 passengers or any of the crew on the train was injured, Graham said.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
