Man Struck Tree In Accident On Hwy 101: UPDATE

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – A man died when his car struck a tree as he exited U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
He has been identified as 21-year-old Edgar Lopez Ayala of Watsonville, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.
Lopez Ayala was driving a 2013 Subaru BRZ on southbound Highway 101 around 4:20 a.m. and took the ramp to Blossom Hill Road, CHP Officer Ross Lee said.

The 21-year-old didn't negotiate a curve on the ramp and drove into a tree, Lee said.
Emergency crews responded and pronounced him dead at the scene, according to Lee.

Investigators are awaiting toxicology results to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, Lee said.
