July 16-17 | Make Your Own Paper
Inspired by our current exhibition, Script & Scribble: The History of Handwriting we will be learning how paper is made! Take paper scraps and transform them into paper through a simple pulp process under the guidance of our Open Studio instructors. Then decorate with different colored dyes, flowers, leaves and petals!

July 23-24 | Shadow Box Landscapes
Inspired by our current exhibition, Et in Arcadia Ego, we will be using cardboard boxes as shadow boxes and making our own paradise landscapes to go inside! Plan your landscape, then cut out trees, mountains, and animals from colored papers and decorate them individually to create your own landscape paradise. Walk through Et in Arcadia Ego to see how other artists imagine these beautiful landscapes.

July 30-31 | Harry Potter Birthday Art
Come celebrate Harry Potter's birthday (July 31!) in the MakerSpace! Contribute to a community project drawing fantastic beasts, and watch our magnetic potions bubble and boil. Create your own Hogwarts House banner, and make a magic wand to take home with you!

August 6-7 | Writing without Pens
Can you write without a pen or a pencil? This weekend try writing with quills and ink on our own clay tablets, made from modeling clay. Use pre-cut goose and crow feathers, found in Central Park, and inks to try different drawing techniques. Finally, try painting using our sumi brushes and ink!

August 13-14 | Vegetable Print Art
It turns out a lot of vegetable look just as nice as they taste. We'll be using celery, carving potatoes, broccoli, and mushrooms to experiment with printmaking. Create your prints with different patterns and colors from each vegetable!

August 20-21 | Pop-Up Art
This weekend we'll be making art that really stands out--literally. Kids will learn the basics of pop-up art then use scissors, glue, and small knives to make their own pop-up creations. We will be demonstrating a few basic pop up techniques: sliding figures across the page, making them pop up from the page, and making figures move on the page. They will then design, decorate, cut out, and glue their very own pieces of pop-up art.

August 27-28 | Drawing with a Needle + Thread
Learn how to make embroidered art! Take scrap fabric, draw your art on it and then enhance that with needles and thread. After making your drawing we will hot glue the fabric to a cardboard embroidery hoop and then a frame so you can put it on display!
