Nearly There: Loma Fire At 99% Containment
BREAKING: The cause of the blaze that destroyed 12 homes and 4,474 acres is still under investigation.

SANTA CRUZ and SANTA CLARA COUNTIES, CA – The 4.474-acre Loma Fire, that has burned for more than two weeks in the Santa Cruz Mountains, is at 99 percent containment tonight, according to Cal Fire.
The wildfire began Sept. 26 around 2:45 p.m. near Loma Prieta and Loma Chiquita roads in southern Santa Clara County, 10 miles northwest of Morgan Hill.
The fire destroyed 12 homes, 16 outbuildings and damaged one residence, along with prompting hundreds of evacuations. The final evacuation center that was operating in Morgan Hill is now closed.

"Fire crews remain throughout the fire perimeter to provide fire suppression repair, remove firefighting equipment, mop up and patrol," the agency said.
Firefighters at the scene tonight number 62, along with five fire engines and five water tenders, Cal Fire said.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
The agency issued a reminder to area residents: "Please drive slowly and use caution as emergency crews and equipment are still working in the area."
