New Women's Boutique Wink and Willo Opens in Los Gatos

A new women's clothing boutique in downtown Los Gatos celebrated its grand opening Saturday with many town residents checking out its fashionable garments while enjoying finger foods and wine.

Owner Mei Lin Ong has opened Wink and Willo at the site of the former Kiss'Tique Boutique, 11 No. Santa Cruz Ave., which closed in January citing a poor economy and the cost of operating a business in the downtown area

"We're selling women's clothing in the affordable range, between $25 and $90. We have some very feminine and cute items," Ong said, adding that the age range for her customers will be women in their 20s to their 50s.

The boutique is also selling women's jewelry, scarves and handbags and Wink Shapewear, created by Ong and described as "medical-grade shapewear" that women use for better fitting purposes.

Asked what shapewear was, Ong described it as spanx, or girdles to help women minimize and slim down their bodies.

The Wink Shapewear brand, according to Ong, is used and recommended by plastic surgeons and ob-gyns.

What made her choose Los Gatos? "It's a great location. We have a lot of foot traffic and it's always such a cute town with a lot boutiques. It's a town that actually likes small businesses rather than big box retailers," she said.

The boutique is Ong's first store, but she's been selling the Wink Shapewear online for several years.

She explained she's the designer and creator of the spanx line, manufacturing the garments in Georgia and selling them worldwide to businesses such as diapers.com and online.

"We're not physically in any store. That's why we're trying to start boutiques such as these that could carry this product," said the San Jose entrepreneur.
