Beloved husband and father is being remembered for his perseverance, loyalty and wry sense of humor.

Doug S. Beattie passed away suddenly of cardiac arrest Jan. 13, 2012 at age 72. Beloved husband of Martha, adored father of Kathryn of Black Mountain, NC. Preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Emily, and brother Ken.
Doug had a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Stanford and a master of business administration from Columbia. Advancing rapidly from a career in newspaper delivery and shoe shining as a boy, he was a manufacturing engineer at FMC, then left to begin his own business manufacturing portrait cameras, Beattie Engineering Corp. on Bean Avenue in Los Gatos.
He sold that business and moved to Ohio with it, then on to various jobs in production management in Rhode Island and Boston.

He became disabled with peripheral neuropathy in the '80s and held consulting positions. Back to San Jose in 1989, he was an accountant for Judyth’s Mountain and accountant and purchasing manager for Woodside Electronics until retiring in 2005.
He was a member and treasurer of the and League of Women Voters of San Jose/Santa Clara.

Doug was a loyal friend with a wry sense of humor. He loved sailing, travelling, and books. He was always inventing gadgets to solve problems, his and others’; was a wonder in the workshop; and did major renovations to every place he lived.
Services have been held. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to The Neuropathy Association, League of Women Voters-San Jose/Santa Clara Education Fund, or Mission Fund.
