Pedestrian Killed In South Bay Crash Involving Rideshare Driver

Police said the accident is under investigation.

SANTA CLARA, CA — A pedestrian was killed Wednesday in a South Bay collision involving a rideshare driver, Santa Clara police said.

The 57-year-old man who was killed was walking along Montague Expressway at the time of the accident that police said is under investigation.

The accident occurred at about 4:25 p.m. Police responded to Montague Expressway, between Mission College Boulevard and Agnew Road, on a report of a traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

When officers arrived, the man was suffering from significant injuries. Life-saving efforts were made, but he died at the scene.

A woman who was walking with the man was not injured. As of Thursday evening, the investigation has revealed that the two were walking southbound on the shoulder of Montague Expressway.

The motorist, a rideshare driver, was also traveling southbound on Montague in a white 2017 Honda Accord in the number four lane of traffic when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the man.

The driver remained on scene and has been cooperating with the investigation. He was working as an active ride-share driver at the time the accident occurred.

Police said alcohol or drug use do not appear to have played a role in the accident.
