SANTA CLARA COUNTY - State Highway 17 reopened Monday evening after a roadside brush fire closed the highway in both directions in the Santa Cruz Mountains, according to Caltrans.

The fire, which was reported shortly before 3 p.m., is located next to the highway in the unincorporated Santa Clara County community of Redwood Estates, according to the fire department.

There were a number of structures threatened by the blaze, and vehicles were being turned around on the highway in both directions, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At 8 p.m., all northbound lanes of traffic had reopened, but at least one southbound lane remained closed, Caltrans said.

The Santa Clara County Fire Department said via Twitter that the fire's forward progress had been stopped, but the fire was not yet under control as of this evening.
