SJSU Shooting Threat Investigated; Police Descend On Campus

A message containing a threat of a shooting Wednesday at SJSU was found in a campus bathroom.

SAN JOSE, CA — A message found scrawled Wednesday in a San Jose State University bathroom threatened a shooting at the campus. Both San Jose police and university police are looking into the potential threat. Increased law enforcement presence is also in place. University police were informed at about 2 p.m. about the message posted in a women's bathroom in Dudley Moorhead Hall threatening a shooting today, Wednesday, Feb. 28, said SJSU's Media Relations Director Pat Lopes Harris.

University officials decided to send an AlertSJSU message to students following the discovery of the possible threat, Harris said.

"UPD is aware of the graffiti in DMH where someone wrote there is going to be a shooting today," the university wrote in the alert. "UPD is investigating the credibility and we will take reasonable precautions."

At this time, neither police departments believe the threat is credible, Harris added.

The school asked anyone with information or anyone who sees suspicious activity to get to a safe location and call university police at 408-924-2222 or call 911 from any campus phone or blue light phone.
