Santa Clara County Reports 1,092 New Coronavirus Cases, 25 Deaths
There were 693 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the county as of Monday of which 158 were being were being treated in intensive care units
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 1,092 additional coronavirus cases Monday.
The latest report brings the countywide case count to 84,726.
The county reported 25 additional coronavirus-related fatalities Monday, bringing its COVID-19 death toll to 944.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area and beyond, the University of California announced Monday that it is planning for in-person classes to resume during the fall 2021 semester at all 10 of its campuses.

UC officials credited the widening availability of coronavirus vaccine doses for students, staff and faculty as the driving force behind announcing plans to reopen.
"As the University continues to monitor the evolution of the pandemic, we are also carefully planning a safe return to in-person classes," UC President Dr. Michael Drake said.
"Current forecasts give us hope that in the fall our students can enjoy a more normal on-campus experience."
Additional details about school health and safety requirements as well as starting dates will be announced by individual campuses, according to UC officials.
The Oakland Athletics and state and local public health officials are in discussions to launch a COVID-19 vaccination site at the Coliseum, a spokesperson for the team confirmed Monday.
According to Catherine Aker, a senior communications official with the team, the A's and Alameda County public health officials are planning on launching the drive-thru vaccination site at the Coliseum's parking lot.
The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority is expected to vote on establishing the vaccination site during its meeting Friday morning.
Spokespersons for the Alameda County Public Health Department and the California Department of Public Health were not immediately available to comment on the planned site.
State and local health officials plan to launch similar drive-thru vaccination sites at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Petco Park in San Diego and Cal Expo in Sacramento, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday.
"These large, mass-vaccination sites, you'll start to see those coming up as early as this week," he said.
According to the California Department of Public Health, 185,297 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the greater Bay Area region as of Monday.

There have been 2,736,759 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 30,144 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Monday afternoon according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
The United States had 22,589,424 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 375,892 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Monday afternoon.
There have been 90,833,894 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,942,974 coronavirus-related deaths reported globally as of Monday afternoon.
