Santa Clara County Reports 1,165 New Coronavirus Cases, 29 Deaths
There were 709 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the county as of Wednesday of which 159 being were being treated in intensive care units.
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 1,165 additional coronavirus cases Wednesday.
The latest report brings the countywide case count to 77,366.
The county reported 29 additional coronavirus-related fatalities Wednesday, bringing its COVID-19 death toll to 799.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area and beyond, California hit a grim milestone Wednesday as the Golden State reached 2.5 million cases Wednesday amid a surge that has overwhelming throughout the state and is forecast to get worse in the coming weeks, The Los Angeles Times reports.

Approximately one of 16 Californians have tested positive for COVID-19 since the crisis began according to the Southern California newspaper’s coronavirus tracker.
The state has added more than one million cases in less than month, the report said.
Oakland educators on Wednesday renewed a campaign to raise money for families who are not eligible for a federal stimulus check.StimulusPledge.org is accepting donations to from the public and other educators who want to donate or pledge some or all their stimulus money.
The campaign was started in the spring because many members of immigrant families lost employment or were impacted by COVID-19 and were having trouble paying for their basic needs.
"We were shocked at what our families were going through," said Anita Iverson-Comelo, principal at Bridges Academy at Melrose in East Oakland, which has been disproportionately impacted the coronavirus.
In this latest campaign, educators want to raise $100,000. The previous campaign raised $250,000.
The money has really helped families at Esperanza Elementary School in deep East Oakland, Principal Cristina Segura said.
But she said, "We still have many families who are struggling daily."
Oakland educators said families are struggling with rent, transportation costs, electric and cellphone bills.

There have been 2,513,875 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 27,602 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Wednesday afternoon according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
The United States had 21,225,179 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 359,977 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Wednesday afternoon.
There have been 87,015,526 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,877,852 coronavirus-related deaths reported globally as of Wednesday afternoon.
