Santa Clara County Reports 13 New Coronavirus Cases, One Death

The latest report brings the countywide total of COVID-19 cases to 2,492

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 13 additional cases of the new coronavirus Wednesday.

The report brings the countywide total of COVID-19 cases to 2,492.

The county reported one additional coronavirus-related fatality, bringing its death toll to 138.

There are currently 79 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Santa Clara County, of which 22 are being treated in intensive care units.

COVID-19 coronavirus testing is now available to all Santa Clara County residents at two different locations. Verily Life Sciences, the life science research arm of Alphabet Inc., will offer free testing to all county residents, even if they don't have symptoms or health insurance, at Police Athletic League Stadium at 680 S. 34th St. and the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds at 344 Tully Road.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area, the Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder's Office announcing this week that it is performing civil marriage ceremonies via Zoom or FaceTime for people having their weddings online during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and resulting shelter-in-place order.

Shopping malls, swap meets, other retail stores, dine-in restaurants and schools can open or will be opening in Napa County amid the coronavirus crisis, county officials said Tuesday. Businesses can open immediately and schools can open June 1, both with adaptations. The changes come after county officials told their state counterparts that they meet the state's criteria for an expanded reopening under stage two of a four-stage process.

The city of Hayward is changing the configuration of parking spots in certain commercial areas this week to accommodate the change in the Alameda County shelter-in-place order that now allows curbside retail activity amid the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

There have been 85,729 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 3,485 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Wednesday afternoon according to data from John Hopkins University.

The United States has confirmed 1,550,559 COVID-19 cases and 93,416 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Wednesday afternoon.
