Santa Clara County Reports 15 New Coronavirus Cases, Two Deaths

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 15 additional cases of the new coronavirus Tuesday.

The report brings the countywide total of COVID-19 cases to 2,483.

The county reported two additional coronavirus-related fatalities, bringing its death toll to 137.

There are currently 82 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Santa Clara County, of which 25 are being treated in intensive care units.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area, San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa has announced a proposal to fund virtual graduations for more than 1,000 local high school seniors at a cost of $103,000 amid the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Recreational boaters were able to get back out on the water Tuesday when launch ramps reopened for them at Moss Landing and Monterey Harbor. The ramps reopened at 5 a.m., provided boaters obey health orders and harbor regulations.

U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted on Tuesday morning that the Bay Area will receive more than $700 million in federal funding. According to the tweet, the funds will be used to support continued operations and workers at San Francisco International Airport, as well as transit services like BART and Muni amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The city of Novato and the Downtown Novato Business Association on Tuesday announced the designation of more than 30 temporary carryout parking spaces along Grant Avenue and a handful of side streets, allowing customers to efficiently access restaurants and businesses in downtown Novato who are offering curbside and storefront pick-up.

Undocumented households in the Bay Area can receive up to $1,000 from the state of California for relief from the coronavirus, according to the California Department of Social Services. An individual is eligible for up to $500 and each household $1,000 provided they are ineligible for other forms of assistance, including the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and pandemic unemployment benefits, due to their immigration status.

There have been 83,321 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 3,374 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Tuesday afternoon according to data from John Hopkins University.

The United States has confirmed 1,527,355 COVID-19 cases and 91,845 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Tuesday afternoon.
