Santa Clara County Reports 207 New Coronavirus Cases, 3 Deaths

There were 89 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Santa Clara County as of Friday, of which 22 were being treated in intensive care units.​

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 207 additional coronavirus cases Friday.

The latest report brings the countywide case count to 23,881.

The county reported three additional coronavirus-related fatalities Friday, bringing its COVID-19 death toll to 388.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area and beyond, the San Francisco Unified School District will reopen its doors for in-person learning for some students staring in January 2021, district officials announced Wednesday.

The announcement marks the return of in-person learning for some public school students -- including those with special needs, preschool students, kindergartners and first graders -- since classrooms first shuttered back in March due to COVID-19.

According to district officials, starting in January, students who are in special education classes, preschool and those in deaf and hard of hearing classes will return to in-person learning. Afterward, kindergartners and first graders may also be able to return to class.

Multiple business sectors in Alameda County were allowed to reopen indoor operations Friday, 10 days after the county moved into a less-restrictive tier of the state's coronavirus reopening plan.

Family entertainment centers like bowling alleys and climbing gyms, restaurants, religious facilities, movie theaters, wedding and funeral facilities and indoor gyms are all allowed to resume indoor operations at 25 percent of their capacity or 100 people, whichever is fewer.

In addition, indoor retail shops and malls can expand operations to 50 percent of their capacity and outdoor non-contact fitness classes of up to 20 people, including the instructor, can resume.

There have been 895,139 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 17,276 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Friday afternoon according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States had 8,472,847 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 223,752 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Friday afternoon.

There have been 42,024,647 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,140,978 deaths reported globally as of Friday afternoon.
