Santa Clara County Reports 216 New Coronavirus Cases, 1 Death

There were 173 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Santa Clara County as of Thursday, of which 49 were being treated in intensive care units.​

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 216 additional coronavirus cases Thursday.

The latest announcement brings the countywide COVID-19 case count to 8,533.

The county reported one additional coronavirus-related fatality Thursday, bringing its COVID-19 death toll to 181.

There were 173 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Santa Clara County as of Thursday, of which 49 were being treated in intensive care units.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area and beyond, Santa Cruz County Public Health Officer Dr. Gail Newel announced Thursday that the county has been flagged by the state for a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, with shutdowns of many types of indoor businesses and activities imminent.
The county was flagged Wednesday after passing 100cases per 100,000 residents and is currently over 850 cases countywide, according to Newel. More than 500 of those cases occurred in the last two weeks.

Marin County residents are allowed to use reusable shopping bags again as long as they carry them or leave them in a shopping cart and then bag their own items at the checkout, county officials said Wednesday. Marin County Public Health updated Appendix A of its shelter-in-place order for the coronavirus pandemic to remove the reusable bags ban installed March 31, according to a county news release.

There were 424,642 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 8,085 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Thursday afternoon according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States had 4,026,288 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 144,032 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Thursday afternoon.

There have been 15,356,780 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 626,357 deaths reported globally as of Thursday afternoon.
