Santa Clara County Reports 347 New Coronavirus Cases, 1 Death

There were 156 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Santa Clara County as of Monday, of which 44 were being treated in intensive care units.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 347 additional coronavirus cases Monday.

The latest announcement, which covers a two-day period going back to Saturday, brings the countywide COVID-19 case count to 7,795.

The county reported on additional coronavirus-related fatality Monday, bringing its COVID-19 death toll to 178.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area and beyond, the California Interscholastic Federation announced Monday that fall and winter school sports across the state will tentatively start in December or January due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. With most of the state's schools expected to begin the school year with virtual classes, CIF officials chose to push the entire interscholastic sports calendar to later in 2020 and into early 2021.

The Community Foods Market on San Pablo Avenue in West Oakland will close starting Monday morning for at least 72 hours after a store employee tested positive Sunday for the COVID-19 coronavirus, the market's CEO said.

A new COVID-19 testing site will open in Alameda next Wednesday in partnership with City Health Urgent Care, the city announced. The new testing site, located at 300 Wind River Way, will provide free testing to anyone with health insurance or a government issued ID, including children and people with special needs, regardless of symptoms. The testing site will have the capacity to test 500 people per day, and will return the results of the test within 15 minutes.

There were 394,936 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 7,746 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Monday afternoon according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States had 3,823,369 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 140,922 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Monday afternoon.

There have been 14,641,789 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 608,637 deaths reported globally as of Monday afternoon.
