Santa Clara County Reports 39 New Coronavirus Cases, No Deaths
There were 54 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Santa Clara County as of Wednesday, of which 15 were being treated in intensive care units.
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 39 additional cases of the new coronavirus Wednesday.
The latest report brings the countywide total of positive COVID-19 test cases to 3,288.
The county reported no additional coronavirus-related fatalities, leaving its death toll at 151.

Elsewhere around the Bay Area and beyond, San Mateo County Health Officer Dr. Scott Morrow has lifted shelter-in-place orders and has issued a new order to align the county with Gov. Gavin Newsom's Resilience Roadmap.

Businesses in San Mateo County will now follow the state's schedule for reopening but must adhere to the local order's COVID-19 safety measures and follow state guidance.
The local shelter in place order of June 4, 2020, has been rescinded and replaced with a new health officer order emphasizing individual behavior and the practices businesses must follow as they resume operations. The new order is effective immediately.
The June 17, 2020, order limits gatherings to no more than 50 people, outlines social distancing and face covering requirements, allows for social bubbles, and requires businesses to implement a social distancing protocol and written health and safety plans.
"We are moving away from opening businesses according to certain categories and instead focusing on behaviors and practices," Morrow said.
University of California at Berkeley officials on Wednesday outlined the school's plans for re-opening for the fall semester, including small in-person class sizes and an intent to house up to 6,500 students on campus. The school will also transition to full remote instruction after the Thanksgiving holiday due to concerns about students traveling and visiting family. As a result, the semester's final exams will be given remotely.
The San Francisco Opera announced Tuesday that it has canceled its fall 2020 season because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. The fall season for the opera was scheduled to open on Sept. 11 with an opening night celebration concert, but organizers said current public health information about the virus and state and local guidelines made it impossible to move forward with the season.
As San Francisco businesses like restaurants and retailers reopen with new adjustments in the face of the COVID-19 coronavirus, city officials on Tuesday detailed their plan to monitor any possible surge in cases.
The city is using five health indicators to monitor the spread of the virus and the ability of the city's health care system to handle it. The indicators include the city's hospital capacity, the number of cases, COVID-19 testing capacity, the ability to perform contact tracing and the availability of personal protection equipment.
There were 159,991 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 5,224 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Wednesday afternoon according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
The United States had 2,157,768 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 117,622 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Wednesday afternoon.
