Santa Clara County Reports 40 New Coronavirus Cases, No Deaths

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 40 additional cases of the new coronavirus Friday.

The latest report brings the countywide total of positive COVID-19 test cases to 3,398.

The county reported no additional coronavirus-related fatalities, leaving its death toll at 152.

There were 55 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Santa Clara County as of Friday, of which 15 were being treated in intensive care units.

Elsewhere around the Bay Area and beyond, the San Francisco Symphony on Thursday announced its canceling all of its concerts at Davies Symphony Hall through the end of the year, as well as other changes, due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

All live performances with spectators, including sports games and concerts, have been put off, in accordance with state guidelines that prohibit all live performances until the final stage of the reopening process.

The Zakat Foundation of America will deliver roughly 35,000 pounds of fresh produce to a mosque in East Oakland this weekend to support food-insecure families. The foundation will hold a free distribution at the Masjidul Waritheen mosque, the oldest mosque in the city. The event is intended to be an opportunity for healing amid nationwide protests against police brutality and racism and the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

There were 167,349 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 5,356 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Friday afternoon according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States had 2,215,587 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 118,991 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Friday afternoon.
