Scotts Valley Motorcyclist Killed In Highway 17 Crash

A motorcyclist was struck and killed by a car on state Highway 17 in the Lexington Hills area of Santa Clara County Friday morning.

LOS GATOS - A motorcyclist was struck and killed by a car on state Highway 17 in the Lexington Hills area of Santa Clara County Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision happened on southbound Highway 17 around 11:50 a.m., when a 69-year-old Scotts Valley man was traveling in a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle north of Madrone Drive, CHP officials said.

A 53-year-old Soquel man in a gray Honda Accord changed lanes and struck the 2016 Harley-Davidson's left side, according to the CHP.

The motorcyclist lost control of the vehicle, which overturned and ejected him onto the road, CHP officials said.

The 69-year-old man slid into a dirt and rock embankment before he came to a stop, according to the CHP.

Emergency crews transported the motorcyclist to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose for major injuries and he was pronounced dead shortly after 1 p.m., CHP officials said.

The Honda driver wasn't injured or arrested, according to the CHP.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office is working on positively identifying the motorcyclist and notifying his next of kin before releasing his name.
